WHO THE HELL AM I?
Every time I read someone's "ABOUT ME" and it speaks in the third person, it feels sorta distancing. So I'm not gonna do that, or at least not yet. I typed this in an attic with my dogs gnawing their bones a few feet away and Iggy Pop blaring. My name is Jackson Murray. I'm a broadly a filmmaker, mostly a writer. I live in Milwaukee with my beautiful family. I was born and raised in the rolling rural hills outside Wilton, WI (pop. 501). If you’ve seen or read the weird, wonderful WISCONSIN DEATH TRIP, that’s pretty much my neck of the woods.
I love body horror, absurdism, heist movies, practical effects, Italian film scores, Steadicam, character dramas, surrealism, stoner noir, monsters, psychological horror, fantastic worlds, space, adventure, Technicolor, sledgehammer satire, folk horror, anachronisms, Acid Westerns, Spaghetti Westerns, Weird West, stop-motion animation, samurai movies, mad scientists, black comedy, crash zooms, slow zooms, slashers, transformation sequences, road movies, genre hybrids, mockumentaries, nightmare logic, title songs, setups, payoffs, cinnamon rolls, and reversals. I love the spookiness of Mario Bava, the satire of Verhoeven and Altman, the tonal tapdancing of the Coens, Del Toro’s imagery, the humanity of John Huston's work, the texture of David Lynch, John Carpenter's hallowed frames, the absurdity of Alex Cox, and Joe Dante’s silliness.
